Justice Mike Bolin
Mike BolinJustice Mike Bolin was elected to the Alabama Supreme Court in 2004. Mike has drawn upon his Alabama values and strong conservative principles in each decision he has made during his tenure on Alabama’s highest court.

A lifelong resident of Alabama, Mike was born and raised in Jefferson County. Mike graduated from Homewood High School before attending Samford University where he earned his B.S. in Business Administration in 1970. After college, Mike went on to law school graduating cum laude from Cumberland School of Law. There he was on the Dean’s List and served as Associate Editor of the Cumberland-Samford Law Review. He was later inducted into Curia Honors, Cumberland’s leadership and honor society.

Mike Bolin and his fatherJustice Bolin began his legal career as an attorney in Birmingham and practiced law until 1988, when he was elected Probate Judge of Jefferson County. He was re-elected Probate Judge in 1994 and 2000.

During that time, Justice Bolin decided over 17,000 cases and presided over 6,000 adoptions. He was active in the Alabama Probate Judges Association, serving as chairman of various association committees. He was elected by his peers as President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Probate Judges Association. He served on the Children's Code Committee, Probate Procedures Committee, Adoption Committee, and Paternity Committee of the Alabama Law Institute. He authored the Putative Father Registry law in Alabama, which protects the rights of all parties in adoption proceedings.

While serving as the Chief Election Official of the state’s most populous county, then-Judge Bolin also served as Chairman of the Alabama Electronic Voting Committee, and as Vice Chairman of the Governor's Commission on Consolidation, Efficiency, and Funding in 2003.

After serving sixteen years as Probate Judge, Justice Bolin was elected to the Alabama Supreme Court in 2004 where he currently serves as an Associate Justice of the Court.

Justice Bolin has a special passion for adoptive families. Justice Bolin serves on the Board of Directors for Heart Gallery Alabama, an organization dedicated to finding permanent, loving families for children in Alabama’s foster care system. In 2000, he received the national award from the "Angels of Adoption" organization in Washington, D.C. for his service to adoptive families.

Mike and Leigh AnneIn addition to his responsibilities with The Court, Justice Bolin is an active member of the Vestavia-Hoover Kiwanis Club and serves on the Board of Directors of Glenwood Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and treating individuals with autism, emotional disturbances, and mental illness.

Justice Bolin and his wife, Rosemary, have one daughter, Leigh Anne. They are active members at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Hoover.
